Business Development Associate Director

Overview:
This position works with a team of business development professionals in a dynamic, fast paced office charged with raising resources to break down barriers to high-quality health care for the world’s most vulnerable populations. The successful candidate will have a background in international health and possess strong program and proposal development credentials. Along with the Business Development (BD) Director, responsible for developing strategy, work plans and evaluating progress of Jhpiego’s overall BD efforts in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness. She or he will play a lead role in internal management of the Business Development Division (BDD). The successful candidate will also actively participate in leads development, proposal management and post-award transition, taking ownership of cradle-to-grave responsibility for procurements. Further, the candidate is expected to lead internal and inter-office Business Development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Manage BD priorities and initiatives between offices and across donors, countries and technical areas
- Provide leadership in the day-to-day management of the BD team
- Serve as primary liaison with other Jhpiego departments, including the Technical Leadership Office and BD Finance
- Design and execute BD-related trainings based on organizational needs
- Mentor and support proposal teams
Pre-bid: Research, Intelligence Gathering, and Opportunity Tracking
- Give leadership to pre-bid proposal preparation for at least one region of the world
- Refine information management systems for optimal use and efficiency
- Propose and/or execute strategies to approach donors and partners based on research
- Monitor near- and far-term identified business opportunities
- Ensure Jhpiego has a role on competitive teams
- Analyze and synthesize existing proposal debriefing and program work to present in future proposals
- Analyze technical, business, and human risk, and inform management as appropriate
Marketing
- In collaboration with program and technical staff, edit and finalize corporate capability statements and past performance references
- In collaboration with Public Affairs, review press releases and other documents for dissemination
- Nurture and maintain relationships with competitors, partners and donors
- Initiate and strengthen network with competitors, partners and donors
- Use relationships/network to grow and diversify Jhpiego funding base
- Represent Jhpiego at professional and donor meetings, conferences and presentations
Identification and Dissemination of Procurement Opportunities
- Identification and dissemination of procurement opportunities
- Identify and highlight critical information for reviewers
- Identify appropriate stakeholders to receive procurement announcement
- Analyze and manage feedback from stakeholders
- Facilitate bid/no-bid decisions
Proposal Development
- Manage from cradle to grave, complex and/or prime proposals, approximately 50% time
- Function as a team leader or team member
- In collaboration with finance, manage cost allocations on complex primes
- Identify appropriate resources for the development and production of proposals
- Support proposal managers and team
- Conduct partner negotiations and finalize agreements
- Draft, edit and synthesize proposal content
- Support editing of cost documents
- Support transition of awarded projects to implementation team
Support Standardized Business Development Procedures
- Support standardized business development procedures
- Develop and maintain tools for leads development, proposal preparation and post award transition processes
- Develop staff training programs to ensure that business development endeavors are streamlined and efficient
- Train staff in streamlined BD processes
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Advanced degree in related field or equivalent job experience
- 8+ years experience in proposal/grant writing, public health and program management for international donor agencies
- 2+ years hands-on proposal management experience
- Knowledge of global health priorities and technical interventions (HIV/AIDS, FP/RH, MCH, ID, etc.)
- Demonstrated success winning competitive proposals from the US government and other international donor agencies
- Strong decision-making skills and results oriented approach
- Fluency in French or Spanish
- Ability to travel up to 25%
- 2+ years working and or living in developing country
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years’ experience developing cost volumes for proposals, including partner negotiations
