Family Planning and Reproductive Health

Jhpiego provides leadership in strengthening family planning and reproductive health services through dissemination and implementation of best practices worldwide as well as the building of health workforce capacity. Jhpiego is committed to meeting the reproductive health care needs of women and men throughout their lives. Central to our mission is using innovative strategies in limited-resource settings. Jhpiego implements programs that integrate the latest research into reproductive health policies, use new technologies for education and training, develop quality certification systems for health care providers, and carry out new approaches to service delivery.

Our programming emphases include:

  • Revitalizing family planning services for long-term and permanent methods

  • Developing and disseminating evidence-based reproductive health standards and guidelines

  • Introducing new methods of family planning, such as the Standard Days Method

  • Integrating family planning into HIV services

  • Strengthening the health workforce through medical, midwifery and nursing education and the standards-based management approach

  • Preventing cervical cancer in low-resource settings

Since 1998, Jhpiego has led the U.S. Agency for International Development's flagship global programs to increase maternal and newborn survival—the Maternal and Neonatal Health Program, as well as the ACCESS Program (and its associate award ACCESS-FP). The current program, ACCESS, is a partnership among six organizations that are collaborating to rapidly expand community and clinical health services for women and newborns in developing countries.
